Obituary

KATIE LEE (ELLIS) GOODMAN

October 5, 1915 - April 12, 2020

Katie was the youngest daughter of Pink Abner Ellis and Lola Lee Shuler Ellis. She was born in Menard, Texas, and lived in London, Menard, and Alpine, Texas. She graduated from London High School in 1933.

She married Tully Clarence (Cotton) Goodman on December 23, 1933.

Katie and Cotton lived through the depression when things were so hard and money was so scarce but they did it. Katie often talked about when Cotton made a dollar a day and they were thrilled to get it. Cotton got a job with Texas New Mexico Pipeline Company in 1938 and worked for them for 38 years with his job taking them to many homes over the years including, Luling, Ozona, Eunice, New Mexico, Andrews, McCamey, Crane, Snyder, Lamesa, Fredericksburg. They also lived in San Marcos and Fayetteville. They moved to Junction in 1983. Cotton passed away in 1985. She was fortunate to be able to live in her home until her death.

Katie lived from the Model T era to men in space.

Katie taught grades first through seventh in a one teacher school at Boggy Branch in 1947-1948 school year.

In 1968, while living in Snyder, Katie followed a lifelong dream of taking art lessons. She loved it and did very well and later taught others. She never claimed to be an artist and told her students, “I can only teach you what I know.”

In 1988, Katie was able to achieve another lifelong dream of going to Israel with her brother, Jim Ellis. She loved it and was able to see first hand what she had read about so many times in her Bible. She loved crossing the Jordan River and wading in the Dead Sea.

Katie had written poems all her life and in 1991 she published a book of poetry which she named Myriad Moods of Mind. Her poems were mostly about real life and some were very funny.

Katie was a member of the Church of Christ and spent many hours studying her Bible and was very knowledgeable. She taught adult and children Bible classes for many years.

She loved being a grandmother, great grandmother and a great great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tully C. (Cotton) Goodman; her father, Pink A Ellis; her mother, Lola Lee Shuler Ellis; her sister, Anne Ellis; her brother, Jim Ellis and granddaughter, Julie Reavis.
