Wilford Albert Wagner (93) passed away peacefully at Kimble Hospital on August 12, 2025. He was born in Priddy, TX on April 13, 1932 to Bernhard Walter and Rosie (Lubke) Wagner.
After graduating from barber school in Austin, TX he joined the US Navy. Wilford served four years of active-duty service and four years of Naval Reserve. He married Irene Light on March 6, 1953 in Llano, TX. They were married 68 years until her passing.
In 1975, Wilford moved to Junction, TX and set up his barber shop which he remained working at until 2024; closing for health reasons. He was a self-taught musician, favoring the fiddle. Wilford’s shop was a gathering place for musical jam session, haircuts, a song, and good conversation. He was known by many as the “Fiddling Barber”.
He was the best son, brother, husband, daddy, and grandad; and he loved the Lord.
Wilford is preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife, Irene; Steve and Mae Light; daughter, Fonda; nephew, Lance Medford; and brother-in-law, Lynn Garrett.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Nixon; grandchildren, Matt and Sonnye Morris and Jessie Nixon; three great-grand-children, Bryton Matthew, Reid Wagner, and Lilly Mae Morris; sister, Laverne Garrett and brother, Wayne (Donna) Wagner; Jim and Lou Medford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jackson and Jennifer Johnson, the nurses and staff of Kimble Hospital, nurses and staff at Menard Manor, and his nurses and physical therapist at Hill Country Preferred Senior Care.
