Roland Hollis Phillips, 92, passed away June 1, 2014 at Kimble Hospital in Junction, Texas. ation will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Kimble Funeral Home from 5:00pm 7:00pm. Services will be Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 10:00am at Kimble Funeral Home with burial at Junction Cemetery with Charles Hagood officiating.

Roland Hollis Phillips was born April 15, 1922 in Segovia Texas at the home of his parents, Charles Craten Phillips and Annie Kathryn Bowers Phillips. He attended Segovia school until he went to Junction High School his junior year. He graduated from Junction High School in 1941.

He married Dorothy Jeanne White in Boerne, TX in 1940. They had one daughter, Gayle Jeannine in 1942.

He joined the U.S. Marines in November, 1943 where he served under Admiral Halsy on the USS New Jersey. He was also on Guam and the Marianas, Hawaiian and Philippine Islands. He was a sharp shooter and light antiaircraft gun crewman. He earned four battle stars. In his unit he was the top boxer. He was discharged on December 13, 1945.

After the war he worked as a carpenters helper for his uncle C.G. Craig and also broke horses.

He married Jackie Marie Johnson on August 14, 1946. They had two children, Kandy Lynn and Roland Hollis Phillips, II.

Hollis was a member of the Junction Masonic Lodge for 64 years. He was a rancher until his death. He also worked for at the auction barn and was a guide at the Moody and YO Ranches for many years. He loved hunting, the outdoors, his livestock and coffee at Segovia with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Craten and Annie Phillips, his sister, Nell and her husband Charles G. Craig, Sister in laws, Dorothy Nell Phillips, Wanda Phillips and Betty Johnson, and Grandsons, Carter Risinger and Roland Hollis Phillips III, Beau.

He is survived by his brothers, Fred and Kay Phillips and brother in law Aubrey Johnson, Daughters Jeannine Ljungdahl and husband Bill, Kandy Dick and husband Gary, Son Roland Hollis Phillips II. Grandchildren, Michelle Wood Husband Guy, Robin Jetton and husband Sam, Marshall Heap and wife Lisa, Holli Heap JP Gabriel, Kelli Kirk and husband Kyle, Juliann Fisher and husband Slade, Amy Simon and husband Kelly, Dustin Phillips, Clu Phillips and wife Jacklyn, Megen Phillips and Jenny Phillips. Great Grand Children, Nicole Rebecca Wood, Kristin Kothmann, Mike and Shannon Jetton, Andrew, Katelynn and Leacy Heap, Erin Bynum, Kole, Kori, Kyler and Kase Kirk, Maegan Matthew Fisher, Grant Simon, Dominique Lyrik Koty Phillips, Avery and Niev Phillips and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kimble County Meals on Wheels and Kimble County Historical Museum building fund.
