Mary Elizabeth Herndon, 79, long-time resident of Junction, Texas passed away October 5, 2017 at Balch Springs Nursing Home in Balch Springs, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday, October 8, from 6-8 pm at Kimble Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, October 9, at 10 am at Hill Country Baptist Church, followed by graveside service at Gentry Creek Cemetery. John Guerrero will officiate.
Mary was born March 28, 1938, to Callie and Harry Carlile in Baird, Texas. She grew up near Abilene and Junction, Texas. She married Chester Nixon in 1953 and raised Kathy, Cindy, and Dan while waitressing part-time. She was a very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in San Angelo. In 1969 she struck off on her own and trained to be an LVN while working as a nurse's aid so she could take care of Renee. She always worked at least two jobs and was at one time the owner of The Kimble Café in Junction, Director of Nurses of several nursing homes including the Leisure Lodge of Midland and the nursing home in Junction, the go-to seamstress for alterations and special occasions in Junction, and a waitress at Isaack's and the Western Café. In 1991, Mary met her love Sonny Herndon in San Angelo and spent the next 20 plus years enjoying her time with him fishing, reading, sewing and loving on her grandbabies and great grand babies.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Callie Carlile, brothers Tommy Carlile, Paul Carlile, Billy Carlile, Jamie Carlile, sister Ruth Sheldon, son Daniel Nixon, and daughters Kathy Ogle and Marilyn June Nixon and grand-daughter Lisa Gregston.
She is survived by her brother Charles Carlile of Kerrville, Texas, husband Ira ''Sonny'' Herndon of Rockport, Texas, daughters Cindy Hindsley of Waco, Texas , Amy Renee Sausameda of Seagoville, Texas, and grand-children Brent Gregston, Robert Gregston, Corrie Halfmann, Jonathan Blevins, Vanessa Zimmerman, Daniel Hindsley, Devin Hindsley, Audrey Raney, Emily Raney, and 10 great grand-children.
Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kimble Funeral Home.
