Marinel Rowell Smith, of Junction, passed away January 26, 2018 at a local care facility at the age of 92. She was born July 27, 1925 in Uvalde, Texas to Jesse Walter Rowell and Ethel Mary Streich. She spent several of her childhood years in camps as her father moved with his job. However, her fondest memories were of the years she spent as a child living in and around Junction surrounded by family. She married Jack Smith in Odessa, Texas on November 15, 1956. She was employed at various restaurants in Junction, including the OK Cafe, Kimble Restaurant, and Isaacks. Marinel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kerrville, Texas.

During her life, toward the end of WWII, she travelled to Okinawa with her husband and came home with great respect for the Okinawan people. She had a special love for history and loved to travel and explore historical sites, especially in Texas. Marinel took great pride in the knowledge that her family had arrived in Texas in 1834 and fought in several of the battles for Texas Independence. She worked hard to impart this love for what our ancestors had experienced to her children and grandchildren. One of her own adventures included going skydiving on her 90th birthday. Many will remember her for her great sense of humor and her great love of animals.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith; her grandson, Mark Hall; great-grandson, Marcus Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Kristi Smith; step-son, Billie Jack Smith; step-daughter and her husband, Sue and Steve Walker; and step-granddaughter, Stephanie Walker.

She is survived by sons, Richard Hall and wife Val of Sherwood, Arkansas, Kelly Smith of Lubbock, Danny Smith of Austin; step-sons, Jerry Smith and wife Lupe of Mason, Tommy Smith and wife Ramona of San Angelo, and Jimmy Smith and wife Carmen of California; daughters, Jessie McFadin and husband John of Utopia and Mary Patterson of Austin; step-daughter, Maydell Vollmer and husband Lester of Fredericksburg; a combined family total of 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous cousins.
