Linda Fay Stevenson Corbo, surrounded by her close family, was peacefully called home to the Lord on August 31, 2025. She was born on September 14, 1939, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Coke R. Stevenson Jr., and granddaughter of Coke Stevenson, the 35th Governor of Texas (1941–1947).
Linda enjoyed a complete and beautiful life. She deeply loved her family, cherished countless friendships, and made a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her story began uniquely—after Governor Stevenson took office in 1941, his wife and Linda’s grandmother, Fay Wright, passed away. Linda and her sister, Scottie Gayle, moved into the Governor’s Mansion, where her mother, “Scottie” Stevenson, served as First Lady of Texas. During that time, her father was deployed to the South Pacific during World War II.
A 1957 graduate of Austin High School, Linda attended the University of Texas at Austin in 1958, where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma. After starting her family, she returned to UT and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1967. She later received a master’s degree from Webster University in 1989, graduating with distinction. A devoted Longhorn, she remained a lifelong supporter of UT and the burnt orange.
Linda dedicated more than 30 years to public education. She began teaching advanced English Literature at Odessa High School before moving to San Antonio in 1969. There, she spent 28 years with the Northeast Independent School District—16 years at Winston Churchill High School and 12 years at James Madison High School. She inspired generations of students and colleagues with her wisdom, values, and compassion.
In 1969, Linda married the love of her life, Mel Corbo, with whom she shared more than four decades until his passing in 2012. Known for her vivacious spirit and elegance, she radiated warmth and positivity wherever she went.
She treasured time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends. Linda loved traveling (especially to New York), country music, classic films, bulldogs, and Texas Longhorn athletics. She also cherished her family heritage at Stevenson Ranch, her time in Rockport, and the beauty of the San Antonio River.
Linda was active in many community organizations, including The Military Civilian Club, The Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her faith and values guided her life—marked by humility, independence, education, loyalty, and love.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Linda will be remembered as selfless, faithful, and wise—a true consultant of life.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Corbo; son, Coke Stevenson Corbo; sister, Scottie Gayle Stevenson; and her parents, Edith “Scottie” Scott Stevenson and Coke R. Stevenson Jr.
She is survived by her son, Scott Stevenson Corbo and wife Kelly of Junction; daughter-in-law, Diane Phillips Corbo of Houston; sister-in-law, Dolly Goebel and husband Brian of Bulverde; grandchildren, Danielle M. Elkhatib and husband Adam of Houston, Nicole A. Lewis and husband Steve of Houston, Holli F. Matlock and husband Paden of San Antonio, Pierce S. Corbo of Dallas, and Coke P. Corbo of Houston; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins Aubrey Lynne McFarren and husband Freddy of San Antonio, and Mary Aline Whilden and husband Bobby of Houston; and her aunt, Jane Stevenson Chandler and husband Fred of Ozona.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, at Kimble Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at the Coke R. Stevenson Jr. family cemetery in Telegraph, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, prior to services on Saturday.
