Letty Jo Kinkead

Letty Jo Massey Kinkead passed away at her home in Junction, TX on February 4, 2022 with her family by her side.

Jo was born in Dibble, OK on February 6, 1923. She missed her 99th birthday by two days.  The dust bowl days were hard for the Massey family and several members had tuberculosis.  The entire clan traveled on Route 66, much of it unpaved, to California stopping on the side of the road to build a fire for coffee breaks or to camp overnight.  Jo's family settled in Ventura, CA, where she attended and graduated high school.  After graduation, Jo's family moved to Tucumcari, NM where her father bought a feed store.  Friends introduced her to a local cowboy, Lewis Kinkead and it was love at first sight.  They soon married in Santa Fe and moved to the family ranch, in Montoya, NM.  It was a whole new world for Jo, but she adjusted and became a wonderful cook known for her delicious pies.  She loved to play bridge with her longtime friends.  She loved working with crafts and family was given many beautiful treasures from her.  In 1965 Lewis and Jo moved to Tucumcari, NM and lived there until 2001 when they moved to Junction, TX.  She loved her new home outside of Junction where she never tired of watching the deer, birds and other wildlife.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Virgie Massey, sister Dorothy, brother Gene and by her beloved husband Lewis who passed away in 2011.

Jo is survived by her daughters Linda and husband Tom Johnston, and Donna Patterson, grandsons Pard (Tammy) Patterson, Ford Johnston, Kinkead (Valerie) Johnston, and great grandchildren, Gunnar Patterson, Mattie Johnston, Canyon Patterson and Coker Johnston.  She loved her family and they will miss her dearly.  A private family gathering will be held in New Mexico at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kimble Funeral Home in Junction, TX (325) 446-3076
