John R. "JR" Evans

John R. "JR" Evans, a remarkable individual whose life journey spanned nearly nine decades, passed away on July 24, 2025, at a care facility in Menard, Texas. Born on May 5, 1938, in Menard, he was raised on the family ranch in nearby Fort McKavett, where he cultivated his love for both the land and the animals around him. His journey began attending and graduating from Junction Schools, and he served in the Texas National Guard.

JR Evans was known for his diverse career that showcased his adaptability and strong work ethic. Over the years, he undertook various jobs, from being a cowboy and a vacuum cleaner salesman to a meat processor and mechanic, before finally finding his passion as a rancher. His commitment to hard work and his hands-on approach to life left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

An avid craftsman, JR built his own house from the ground up, a testament to his skills and dedication. He found joy in operating his Bobcat skid steer, and relishing the moments he spent playing with his beloved dog, Tip. JR was a member of the Fort McKavett Masonic Lodge #750, AF&AM. He also cherished his experiences as a member of the Murr Church of Christ, where he led the singing on occasion.

JR leaves behind a loving family, including his son, John Perry Evans (Debbie); daughters, Dana White (Pat) and Rana Evans; step-sons, Mike Minton and Jerry Mack Minton; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of hard work, love, and laughter.

He is predeceased by his father, Damon Evans; mother, Willie Agnes Evans; brother, Billy Damon Evans; sister-in-law, Betty Evans; nephew, Mark Lamar Evans; and step-son, Randy Minton. His wife of 52 years, Henrietta "Henrye" Evans, also preceded him in death.

JR's life can be celebrated at a funeral service on July 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, to be held at the Murr Church of Christ in Fort McKavett, Texas. Family and friends will gather to honor his memory and reflect on the profound impact he had on their lives. His spirit will live on through the memories and stories shared by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
