John Alvin Evans

John Alvin Evans was born to Damon and Eva Evans on November 7, 1954 and passed away on July 2, 2023.  He spent the majority of his life in the Junction area around his family and close friends.  His warm smile, hearty laugh, and big bear hug will be missed by everyone that ever knew him.  John Alvin loved people and would end almost every conversation with everyone he ever encountered with a heartfelt “love you”.

John Alvin also loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting, trapping were hobbies he was always compassionate about.  He, brother Paul and Johnathan wan many a trap line and during the time Paul became very good at identifying tracks and any sign that was left in the area, paying special attention to scat droppings and knowing each critter by the distinctive smell. Once while they were re-setting a trap, Paul found some scat that left his truly perplexed.  After breaking it apart several times and trying to get the tell-tale scent he finally gave up and said he just didn’t know what could have left that thing.  At which time, 12-year-old Jonathan spoke up and said “Uncle Paul I did that yesterday when we were here.”  Yes… many good times were had out in the pasture. John especially oved fishing, he was questionably quite the accomplished fly fisherman and thrashed the Llano River unmercifully. His real claim to fame was bass fishing. He could give tutorials about jig fishing in heavy cover. He’d say start with 30lb test time, crank the drag down as tight as you can get it, then drop that jig in the thickest brush pile you can find.  When that bass picks it up, just suck him out of there babe.  To watch him in action would leave one a bit doubtful, but the results could never be denied.

Other than the Lord, John Alvin’s greatest love and his pride and joy has always been his sons, Jonathan and Raymond.  He cherished every minute he ever shared with them.  Their bond was truly indescribable and even now, without a doubt, John Alvin is looking down at them with a warm glow in his heart and a smile on his face.

How else can we describe John Alvin Evans? The Lord made so few people like him and he’ll be missed by so many people here on earth.  May the Lord welcome you with your patented warm smile, hearty laugh, and big bear hug that all of us here will always remember and miss for the rest of our lives.  We love you buddy.
