Jodie Routt

Jodie Junior Routt, 42, of Junction passed from this life on June 12, 2023 at a hospital in San Antonio.

Jodie was born September 4, 1980 in Brady, to Melvin Charles and Maria Elena (Mary Helen) Quintanilla Routt.  He was raised and attended school in Brady.  Jodie never met a stranger and would talk to anyone who came his way.  He was always talking about and bragging on his dad and brother.  JJ loved to tell people about his dad being on the Philadelphia Eagles football team; and they loved watching the Eagles play.  Charles, JJ’s brother, was very important to him; he looked up to him, and always looked forward to spending time with him at family gatherings.  Jodie was a momma’s boy and was not afraid to admit it.  He loved to hang out with her; eat Oreo cookies, drink chocolate milk and watch Friends on TV.

JJ married Jennifer Coursey on September 13, 2008 in Brady.  They combined their families, and together raised four boys.  JJ loved to Bass fish with his sons, watch their sporting events, and play video games with them.  JJ loved game night with his family; and he always won - even if he had to cheat.

Over the course of their family life, two daughters-in-law and a grandson were added.  JJ loved to give his “girls” a hard time.  He was always joking with them or picking on them.  Many times, he would turn the light off while they were in the shower and walk off laughing.  He also gave them a hard time about their cooking or lack thereof.  Then came along his pride and joy, grandson, Creed.  JJ loved being his “PopPop”.

Jodie was an amazing husband, friend, father, and provider for his family.  He even started his own business, Routt’s Diesel Repair Service.  Many times, he would take Jennifer or the boys to work with him.  Not only was this his way of providing, but it was how he could spend time with them and teach them his trade.

One of Jodie’s favorite things to do was to have get togethers with his family and friends.  To him, gatherings weren’t just for the holidays.  He didn’t need a reason to BBQ, pitch washers, throw horseshoes, eat and just hang-out.  Anytime Jennifer would get a compliment on her food at the BBQ he would take credit for it and say “I did that!”

Jodie will be remembered for the love he showed his family and friends, for being a jokester, for having a big heart, and always helping others.  Most of all, he will be remembered as son, brother, husband, dad, PopPop and friend.

Jodie is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Those left to honor his memory include his parents, M.C. and Mary Helen Routt; wife, Jennifer Coursey Routt; sons, Chace Tomlinson and wife Kelsey; Cameron Tomlinson and wife Jaci and their son Creed, Briley Tomlinson, and Jodie Junior “Trae” Routt, III; brother, Charles Routt and wife Jessica and their sons Charlie and Donavan; sister, Brandy Reed; and numerous extended family members on both sides.
