James Alfred Barker, 95, of Junction, Texas passed from this life on December 22, 2019 at a care facility in New Braunfels. James was born December 23, 1923 to Joel Alvin and Laura Shelby Barker in Post, Texas. He had five siblings: Clovis, Leon, Joe, Bobby, and Dorothy Nell Barker Phillips.
James is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cambria Jane; son, Marcus Bryan; his wife, Jane; brothers, Clovis and Leon; and sister, Dorothy.
Those left to honor his memory include his son Monty and wife Judy of Corpus Christi; granddaughters, Stacey Robinson and husband Todd of Celina, Jenna Lord and husband Hunter of McKinney, Holly Beckerley and husband Zac of McKinney; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Sydney Robinson, Reese and Cooper Lord, Conley, Cambrie, and Levi Beckerley.
James attended Junction ISD schools until he enlisted in the US Navy during WWII where he served in the Aleutian Islands and Gilbert Islands on cruisers/destroyers which included the USS Portland and the USS Gridley. James married Jane Lucille Corl on February 16, 1946, and they moved to Junction where he owned Kimble Oil Company for 38 years. After retirement, James and Jane enjoyed RV travelling, dividing their time between Ruidoso horse races, fishing, Junction and family gatherings.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2019 at the Junction City Cemetery with Charles Hagood officiating. Visitation will be held from 10AM-12Noon at Kimble Funeral Home on January 4, 2019, prior to services.
Memorials may be made to the Kimble County Museum or to the donor's favorite charity.
