Hon. Dunk

SAN ANTONIO Wilbur Ray Dunk, 84, of Junction, TX, passed from this life Friday morning, May 10, 2013, at Metropolitan Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Kimble County on September 9, 1928 to William Henry and Ada Ophelia Etheridge Dunk.

Wilbur was a lifelong resident and rancher of Kimble County. He attended school in Segovia and Junction, graduating from Junction High School in 1946. He married Joyce Pyles in Eden, TX on June 6, 1953 and they enjoyed almost 60 years together. While in high school, he was the National First VicePresident of the Future Farmers of America. He enlisted in the Army in response to his countrys entry into the Korean conflict and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX. He served in public office for over 33 years as county commissioner and Kimble County Judge.

Within the community, he served as Junction ISD School Board President, as an active member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club, and as a deacon at First United Methodist Church and later at First Baptist Church. His leadership as a charter member Texas Association of Regional Councils and as a Director and President of the National Association of Regional Councils helped pave the way toward improved intergovernmental cooperation. In 1995, The Texas Association of Regional Councils established the Wilbur R. Dunk Regional Leadership Award in honor of its first recipient, Kimble County Judge Wilbur R. Dunk. He was also the honored recipient of the Tom Bradley Regional Leadership Award from the National Association of Regional Councils. The Texas Association of Regional Councils presented Wilbur with the Regional Leadership Award which stated, Over 2000 years ago, the prophet Micah expressed Gods vision of the Good Citizen: He has shown you o man what is good, to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Wilbur Dunk has a passion for justice, lives kindness, and acts upon his beliefs. In all that he does, he is civil, thoughtful, caring, and in search of the common good. Wilburs active involvement in many civic and charitable organizations proved that one person can truly make a difference.

Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Dunk.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Joyce Dunk daughter, Debra Speer and husband Kelly of Killeen, TX son, Duane Dunk and wife Tammy of Seattle, WA brother, Harold Dunk and wife, Barbara of Dallas, TX 4 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren.

ation will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 from 5:30 7:30 PM at Kimble Funeral Home, 1010 College Street, Junction, TX. Funeral Services for Wilbur will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the Governor Coke R. Stevenson Memorial Center in Junction with Rev. Bill Blackburn and Rev. Ken Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in the Junction City Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Kimble County Meals on Wheels, the Kimble County Library or Franklin Graham Ministry.
