Helen Yarbrough

Helen Reid Yarbrough died on April 28, 2015. She was born in Fort Worth on June 25, 1922, and lived in Junction for most of her life. She graduated from Junction High School and attended The University of Texas. Because of declining health, she had been in assisted living in Kerrville for several years, but her heart still was in Kimble County. She loved the ranch there where she spent most of her life.

Her devotion to Junction and Kimble County were represented by her support of causes she thought were important to the area. The land for Kimble Hospital was a donation from her parents' property, and she also donated the land for the new hospital. She supported the Kimble County Library, the Kimble County Historical Museum, and other local causes and was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Junction.

Helen was elected to the office of District and County Clerk in Kimble County after serving as deputy for several of her predecessors. An excellent typist, she worked over the years in various clerical positions, including church secretary.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Calbert and Maude Livingston Reid, and husband, Richard Yarbrough. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Lynn Cunningham (Knoxville, Tennessee) and stepdaughters, Georgia Ann Sykes (San Angelo) and Mary Linn Brawley (Junction). Also from Junction is a cousin, Linda Livingston. Long-time friends Emily Bierschwale (Segovia) and Leon Westfall (Giddings) are "chosen family" who provided special assistance in recent years.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Junction, with Rev. Camille Bryant and Rev. Sid Spiller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Church, Hill Country Youth Ranch (Ingram), Kimble County Meals on Wheels, Kimble Hospital, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kimble Funeral Home. (325) 446-3076
