Granville Lackey

Granville Oscar "Skip" Lackey, 88, went to be with the Lord on the evening of July 22, 2017. Skip was born in Ingram, Texas on November 22, 1928 to Granville Wesley and Josephine Lackey.

Skip served in the National Guard during the Korean War; as when he was drafted, he had two broken ankles. He was a bull rider and proud rodeo clown for 16 years; chasing his dream and captivating the crowd. Skip married Johnnie Mae Kiser on December 2, 1950 in Junction, Texas. An experienced young man, he was a ranch hand, truck driver, heavy equipment operator, and foreman while helping to build Interstate 10 East of Junction to Fort Stockton. He worked for Allen Construction from 1969-1978 when he decided to establish a permanent residence for his family in Iraan, Texas. He then began to work with Garrison Contractors until 1984, before joining Marathon Oil Company until 1994. Upon his retirement from Marathon Skip returned to his work-family at Garrison's until the age of 85 in 2014. He enjoyed being quite the trickster and never hesitated to help any person in need.

Skip was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 66 years, Johnnie Mae Lackey; son, Granville Oscar Lacker, Jr.; father, Granville Wesley Lackey; mother, Josephine Lackey; brother, Bobby Lackey; and sister, Lela Mae Pendley.

He is survived by his two daughters, Fannie Gay Evans and husband Eddy, Lisa Kay Lackey and boyfriend Shane Parish all of Iraan; sisters, Cokie Rae of Seguin, Margie Taylor of Kingsland, Edna Jean Copeland of Kerrville; brother, Jimmy Lackey of Kerrville; two grandsons, Eddy Evans II and wife Billie, Granville Wesley Evans and wife Amanda, all of Iraan; two granddaughters, Shanna Gibson and boyfriend Brent Boyles, and Kimber Hornsby; three great-granddaughters, Hayvn Evans, Kiley, Huffman, Lexie Coe; two great-grandsons, William Evans, and Colton Hornsby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
