Glenda Jean Matney Thomas was born on July 13, 1947, to Ollie and Henry Matney in Vernon, Texas. She joined the love of her life and loved ones who went ahead on June 30, 2025.
The 7th of 10 children, she graduated from Northside High School in 1966. She met Wylie “Peep” Thomas at Willow Beach on Possum Kingdom Lake in 1966 and would be married the following February. They welcomed a son, Quentin in March of 1970 and a daughter, Blenda in August of 1971. They lived in Deaf Smith County and Lubbock County until moving to the Hill Country to be closer to their children and grandchildren. During her time in the Panhandle, she was a substitute teacher, Master Gardener, and mother to all. After moving to the Hill Country, she worked at Higgenbotham’s Hardware in Brownwood and Whitetail Junction Ranch in Kimble County, where she found a passion for caring for the fawns in the breeder pens. Everyone who knew her knew of her love for orphaned animals and in her stubbornness; she could nurse ANYTHING back to life. She didn’t just have a green thumb; she had a green hand. She shared her love of plants with anyone that would stand still long enough to listen. One of her favorite things was to send you home with a cutting of something in a damp paper towel with specific planting instructions.
Glenda’s most treasured title was “Moo-moo” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Watching sports games, giving advice, or telling stories, her time spent with them was precious to all involved.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years; her parents; sisters, Mary, Marty, and Barbara; brothers, Billy, Homer, Jerry, and Elbert.
Glenda is survived by her children, Quentin Thomas (Kim), and Blenda Wright (Timmy); her “second daughter”, Jackie Cantrell (Clinton); grandchildren, Shelby Thomas, Tayler Schulze (Dalton), Trever Wright (Candace), Rayna Thomas (Mark); great grandchildren, Reevie and Millie Schulze and Rubi Kelley; step-grandchildren, Tiffany (Marshall, Kimberley, and Jacob) and Tonya Betts. She is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
There will be a celebration of her life on July 26, at 11:00 am at The One Faith Little Church in Junction.
