Gene Simon

Gene Clayton Simon passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born on February 14, 1936 on the family ranch to Herbert and Lola Simon. He married his wife; Wanda Simon in October of 1966 and they recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. He was a lifetime rancher and steward of the land. Gene graduated from Junction High School in 1954 and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves as a cook. Gene also served as a Kimble County Commissioner for 12 years. He began his construction career working on Hwy 290 and Interstate 10. After completion of these jobs, he started his own construction company and ran it until he retired.

Gene was a giver to all in his life, and the most loyal friend and family man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, smoking cigarettes, telling stories, and having a good time. He loved to drive around the pasture and look at his livestock. He was very proud to have lived all of his life on the ranch that has been in the family for 115 years. He loved to socialize and had never met a stranger. Above all, time spent with his family is what ''Pop'' treasured the most.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Howard and Charlie Simon. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Wanda Simon; two sons, Clay and his wife Lainey and Kelly and his wife Amy; sister, Gayle Simon; sister-in-law, Cheryl Simon; grandchildren, Kalea, MaKlay, Dax, and Grant Simon; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.

Services will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the First Methodist Church in Junction. Graveside will follow at the Copperas Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Rodger Carlile, James Carlile, Mitch Davis, David Lackey, Rance Roberts, Kendon Roberts, and Chris Casaday.
