Gary Von Barnett

Gary V. Barnett

August 29, 1947 – August 2, 2025

Gary Barnett, 77, of Bullard, Texas, passed away on August 2, 2025 at the Barnett Ranch in Ft. McKavett, Texas.

Born and raised in Mount Pleasant, Texas, Gary carried the spirit of East Texas with him throughout his life. He later settled in Baytown, Texas, with his wife of 53 years, Kathy, where he raised his family and enjoyed a long and successful career as a chemist with Arco and ExxonMobil. Outside of work, Gary dedicated more than 20 years to coaching Little League baseball at West League Park becoming a steady and positive influence in the lives of countless young athletes.

In 1999, Gary and his wife, purchased a ranch in Fort McKavett, Texas—a place that quickly became his sanctuary. After retiring, they split their time between their Lake House on Lake Palestine and the ranch, but the Barnett Ranch remained his favorite place to be, a symbol of his love for nature, hard work, and family.

Gary is survived by his loving wife; his son, Matt Barnett and wife Lindsay; his daughter, Misty Barnett Trahan and husband Chris; and his cherished grandchildren: Reese Barnett, Easton Barnett, and Connor Trahan. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend—steady, kind, and full of quiet wisdom.

A private memorial service will be held at the ranch for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Friends of Ft. McKavett to help preserve the lands that he loved (www.ftmckavettfriends.com/get-involved).

Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Kimble Funeral Home. (325) 446-3076
