Dayton William Scott left his earthly body on Monday, April 10th, with his trusty hound Brewster, by his side. Dayton was born July 30th 1984, to Michael Dayton Scott (Mike) and Sharan Hart. His parents instilled a love of paddling at a very young age; taking many river trips and Easter egg hunts down the Rio Grande.
Dayton graduated from Sanderson High School in 2003. During his high school years, he played various sports; excelling in football…even going all the way to the state 6-man championship game. The “Bacon, #44,” Daddy’s ‘fat boy’, even scored the last touchdown of that game for Sanderson. During those young years; he made many meaningful lifelong friendships.
Upon graduation; Dayton went on many great adventures and lived many different lives. From living it up in Stephenville or ditching for an internet line company; he did it all. Dayton loved and lived life, to the fullest; but he was not afraid of hard work and getting his hands dirty. He found his greatest love later in life, though, and it was definitely the water well business. He loved windmills and making it all work and come together.
Dayton was a small-town guy, growing up in Marathon and Sanderson, and later, at the ranch on Lozier Canyon. He was an avid outdoorsman; loving all aspects of being outside. From paddling the Rio Grande to rounding up livestock; he did not mind; because that meant that he was outside. However; “running the river” was what he enjoyed the most.
If you had the amazing opportunity to get to know Dayton, you knew that he was a free spirit. His passion for the river fully formed and he planted his family with in that. It was his heart and soul and If he could find a clean shirt; he would jump in with you and go to the moon, if it meant adventures awaited. From the banks of the Rio to a skyline room in Austin for a track meet; he was there. Dayton was an amazing friend, brother, son, and all around; one heck of a guy.
Current special friends, Mike and Kamie Klassen met Dayton thirteen or so years ago. Kamie brought Dayton over to meet Mike and although Mike didn’t care for new people; it was love at first sight…they were truly two, well; really, three peas in a pod. Thirteen years’ worth of adventure and river stories and as a family; we could not be more honored by the companionship they gave him.
Dayton is preceded in death by his mother, Sharan Hart Belcher and her twin sister Karen Hart Woodward; his maternal grandparents William and Harla Hart; his paternal grandparents Tony and Mary Scott.
He will be greatly missed by his father and stepmother, Mike and Andra Scott, stepfather Wally Belcher, sister Kaley Michelle Scott, and brothers Waylon Belcher and Alvin and Aaron Askins. Dayton is also survived by his uncles and their wives: Ross Scott (Dawn), Zane Scott (Brenda), Joe Bob Scott (Robin), and Bob Hart (Jeanie); his brother and sister-in-love, Mike and Kamie Klassen; his nieces and nephew Kiara Hodges, Chastity Hodges and AJ Hodges. Also; all of his amazing river brothers and friends.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the London Cemetery in London, Texas.
