London, TX Calbert C. Childress, 88, of London, passed from this life at his home on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
Born in Mertzon, TX on January 14, 1923, he was the son of John Creed and Lillie Pearl Hensley Childress. He had been a resident of London for many years.
Mr. Childress served in the US Navy during WWII as a Seabee.
On May 5, 1955, he married Frances Johnan David in Reno, NV, a union that would span 56 years.
A hard worker that always took pride in his work, Mr. Childress took great pride in telling family and friends that he was a selftaught man. He was a heavy equipment operator and helped build many roads in California as well as in Alaska, before it was a state. He was a member of the IUOE.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Childress never met a stranger, and if he saw you were in need, he would do anything he could to help you out.
Mr. Childress was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Doris Anita Childress in 1989 and by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Frances J. Childress of London his daughter, Marlynn Moredock of Pensecola, FL 3 children he raised as his own, John H. David, Troyce Wetz and Tonnie Robbins 11 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren 12 great great grandchildren and 2 great great great grandchildren a brother, James Childress of San Angelo, TX a sister, Estelle Holtman of Alaska and many nieces and nephews.
According to his wishes, services will be private.
The family suggests that donations in his name be made to the American Cancer Society.
