Betty "Betsy" Smith Timm

Betty “Betsy” Lou Smith Timm, 80, of Junction, Texas, passed on to her eternal home on July 4, 2021.

Betsy was born to Olney Burrell Smith and Ina Bea McCoy on June 23, 1941, in Junction. She grew up in Junction where she met and married Henry Lewis “H. L.” Smith. Together, they were blessed with four children, Benny, Ricky, Debra, and Steven. Betsy later earned her GED while raising her children and working several jobs to support their family.

In 1960, the family relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where Betsy earned her beautician’s license. They returned to Junction in 1970 where she stayed the rest of her life. After H. L.’s passing in 1988, Betsy continued to care for her children, providing a home full of love for her family and friends.

On June 22, 1991, Betsy married Charles “Charlie” Ray Timm, also of Junction, and became stepmother to his two daughters, Cynthia and Carolyn. The couple resided together outside of Junction enjoying time with neighbors, family, and friends on their riverfront acreage.

Betsy was a staple in the Junction community throughout her life. In 1988, she purchased Top Art Beauty Shop on Main Street where she styled hair for over 40 years. Her customers from across Junction became close friends who returned week after week for Betsy’s expert care and, as in many hair salons, lively conversations. Betsy’s shop was known for quality hair services, festive holiday decorations, and lots of love, and it became a gathering place for family, friends, and customers alike over the years. She retired in April 2020 after more than 50 years as a beautician, then continued to style her close friends’ hair outside of the shop.

Supporting her family was Betsy’s greatest joy. As her children started families, she stayed involved in their lives, visiting frequently and sending cards for every birthday and holiday. Later, when her grandchildren became involved in school, sports, and extracurriculars, Betsy attended weekly games and other activities, supporting them during both wins and losses. She was also an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas A&M Aggies, and she enjoyed watching football games with her friends and family. Betsy loved her Lord, spending daily time studying her Bible and attending Hill Country Baptist Church with Charles.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Charles Timm; children Cynthia (Les) Keever, Benny (Debi) Smith, Carolyn (Jim) Timm Kistler, Ricky (Gina) Smith, Debra Smith, and Steven (Sherry) Smith; grandchildren Whitley Smith, Lindsay (Luis) Hernandez, Denise Barron, Kaycie (Taylor) Will, Laci Smith, Manny Barron, and Cash Smith; great-granddaughter Charlotte Gragg; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation is available from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 9, at Kimble Funeral Home, 1010 College St. Junction.

A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at Hill Country Baptist Church,

322 S. 11th St. Junction, TX 76849 with Pastor Aaron Martin officiating, followed by a graveside service at Junction Cemetery.

Flowers and cards may be sent in Betsy’s name to Kimble Funeral Home at 1010 College St Junction, TX 76849. The family requests that monetary donations be sent to Hill Country Baptist Church to be added to the Betsy Timm Memorial Scholarship fund which will help local students in Betsy’s honor.
