Adam Murr

Adam Thomas Murr (aka Tommie) passed away at 99 years old on January 11, 2015, at the Kimble County Hill Country Care Center in Junction, Texas. Tommie was born on October 10, 1915 at the Murr Headquaters in Kimble County to Adam Murr and Ellen Mayes Murr. He was the youngest of 11 siblings. Siblings included Willie Murr, Ernest Murr, Rolland Murr, Moras Murr, Ollie Murr, Roy Murr, Luke Murr, Alma Murr, Asa Murr, and Elizibeth Murr Hasse. Being the youngest, Tommie learned the art of ranching from his older brothers. One of his favorite childhood pastimes was going with the brothers on the cattle drive from Murr to Menard to load the cattle on the old railway. In their spare time, they played polo, which happens to be how he got his two front teeth knocked out. On December 22, 1934 he married the first love of his life, Theda Marie Sheppard (aka Mickey). Tommie and Mickey ranched together in the Murr community and later moved to the Knoxville community southeast of Junction. Tommie served on various county committees throughout his life. He was president of the JISD School Board, served on the county commission that helped determine fair compensation for landowners for the construction of I-10, and was on the committee that determined and set property taxes for the various ranches and farms in Kimble County. He also served as a Deacon and later on as an Elder at the College Street Church of Christ. Mickey preceded him in death in June of 1981. It was through the Church Tommie met his second love Mary Mitchell Corzine. They were married in San Angelo, Texas on July 13, 1983.

Tommie is preceded in death by all of his siblings, Mickey Murr, daughter, Margaret Corzine Ayers, and daughter, Marilyn Corzine Farris.

Tommie is survived by Mary Corzine Murr; children, Diane Murr Fite and husband Ron Fite, Jon Murr and wife Mary Castleberry Murr, Belinda Corzine Hayes, and David Corzine and wife Janet Corzine. He was survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
